My Pathway

Outline of the Organisation

My Pathway supports people who are starting, growing or evolving small businesses across northern Tasmania. Our reach stretches from Strahan on the West Coast to Bicheno on the East Coast, across the entire north, including King Island and Flinders Island.

We deliver the fully funded Self-Employment Assistance Program, a proven program that has been running for over 40 years and has supported more than 250,000 Australians to build successful small businesses. Our support is tailored specifically to Tasmanians. Our mentors are locals. They understand the realities of doing business in Tasmania because they live it. They know the challenges and the opportunities.

At My Pathway, we believe small business is about community impact, resilience and self-determination. When local businesses thrive, Tasmania thrives. We support Tasmanian tourism operators, gardeners, artists, consultants, massage therapists, photographers, wood turners, farmers, café owners, therapists, music producers, marketing agencies and mobile hairdressers, plus many more. We love seeing small business owners back themselves, follow their passion and thrive!

Value / Support Offered to Small Businesses

Many people begin their journey with My Pathway with our Exploring Self-Employment Workshop, delivered monthly and designed to give participants a strong, practical foundation for running a small business in Tasmania. Across five focused days, we cover everything from mindset and business ideation to customer profiling, financial literacy and legal requirements, branding, sales and marketing, plus real-world advice gleaned from lived experience.

Participants also receive hands-on support with Business Plan Development and Financial Forecasting, offering solid structure and direction. From there, they can move into our 12-month Small Business Coaching program. Each business owner is matched with a dedicated mentor who is an experienced small business operator with deep knowledge of the Tasmanian small business landscape. The mentoring provides structured, ongoing support and is available to both new and existing businesses.

We also offer one-off Business Advice Sessions for those who need clarity, direction or a sounding board for their ideas. For established businesses, our Business Health Checks help identify strengths, gaps and opportunities for growth and sustainability. Participants may also choose to undertake nationally recognised Small Business Training, including Certificate III and IV in Entrepreneurship and New Business, along with a range of targeted micro-learning units.

My Pathway stands out as a premier provider of the Self-Employment Assistance Program because we understand Tasmania. Our mentors have built successful businesses from the ground up, and we bring the experience, energy and genuine commitment to helping others do the same.
