Outline of the Organisation
Hobart City Council is the local government body responsible for the Hobart local government area. The Council is made of a Lord Mayor, Deputy Lord Mayor, and ten Elected Members. The City of Hobart has around 700 employs who report to the Chief Executive Officer. We provide a wide range of services for the wellbeing of the community.
Our vision and goals reflect our commitment to a thriving, inclusive and sustainable future. They guide how we plan, make decisions and engage with our community.
We use strategies, plans and reports to turn ideas into action and track our progress. These documents help us stay accountable and focused on what matters most to Hobart.
Through advocacy and submissions, we represent Hobart’s interests at all levels of government. This ensures our community’s voice is heard and our priorities are supported.

Value / Support Offered to Small Businesses
Our small business support programs include:
- Hello Hobart
Businesses located in the City of Hobart local government area can list their business for free on the Hello Hobart website. We amplify our Hello Hobart content through organic social media posts, newsletter and digital advertising to help spread the word about our listed businesses.Hello Hobart promotes Hobart’s retail stores, cafes and restaurants. We share the stories of the people behind the stores and find out what makes their business unique. We aim to help both locals and visitors find Hobart’s hidden gems.

The Digital Growth Program has been designed to help small businesses in the Hobart LGA build long term digital capability.Through a combination of practical workshops, expert mentorship, and grant funding of up to $8,500, this program supports businesses to strengthen their online presence, improve digital performance, and adopt the tools needed for sustainable growth.
By joining the program, you will:
• Build confidence in digital tools and marketing
• Access structured one on one mentorship
• Connect with other local businesses
• Support Hobart’s digital service providers
• Identify and implement improvements that enhance your online reach and competitiveness
